SOFTWARE
Audient ASP 880
8 mic pres with A/D conversion. Audient was long known for their stellar consoles, which supposedly use the same pres as this. Honestly, I have never been too hot on most of these 8 channel units, they generally leave me feeling pretty underwhelmed. I'd rather have 2 or 4 good pres than 8 mediocre ones. But I had a project where I needed to get more pres, quickly and within my budget (though this is not a cheap unit, just not $1200 a channel). So I bought this unit off a recommendation on the Womb (RIP :sadface) as kind of a stop gap, thinking I'd use it on the project, resell it, and find something I'd use more long term. Turns out, I really like how it sounds, and I'm keeping it. Not only are the pres great, but the conversion is quite solid and you can use the unit as just a AD converter, bypassing the pres. I would put anything through this, one of those happy little audio finds.
This is part of my setup for live recordings, paired with an Audient USB interface, using the ADAT connection to the interface. Works awesome.
