SOFTWARE
Plug ins [ Slate, Waves, others ]
I use less plugins than many other folks I know. I try to get it right at the mic, and keep processing to a minimum, although I will and do break that rule. I use the Slate plugs most often. Sometimes I might stick one of my Waves EQs in there. I also like Soundtoys plugs when I want a tad more 'character', particularly the EQ and Echo, though it doesn't work on everything. I recently got the EMI/Abby Road plate reverb from Waves, haven't used it much but so far, been very impressed. Eats a ton of resources, but sounds great. But generally speaking, I do not put 800 plugs on every track. If you keep reaching for the 'multi-band-phase-shifter-congolglomo-reducer-blotto-pressor', maybe the problem is further upstream. Just sayin. But hey, whadoo I know.
