SOFTWARE
Gefell MV691/M71
Cardoid only version of the classic UM70. You can read the full history on the write-up for the UM70, but short story, Gefell and Neumann share a history, and often designs and parts. The basic thought on this mic is that it is Gefell's version of the U87, even made with the same M7 capsule. I'm not sure I'd say they sound exactly like each other, they don't. But they clearly share a lineage. In short, these mics are fantastic, one of the "sorta-hidden-secrets" in the audio world. Probably because "big box audio marts" don't sell them. This particular one is dated some time in the early 60s, meaning it has iron (a transformer). Converted for 48v phantom by Andreas Gosser. Bought from Madooma, a well reputed German mic supplier.
